Why Canadians Consider Post-Secondary Education in the United States

In an ever-evolving world, the phrase “the world is a global village” is gradually becoming a reality. To avoid being left behind in an evolving world, staying ahead of the curve is important. One of the ways to stay ahead of this curve is through international education opportunities. As Canadians, one of the best countries to study outside Canada is the U.S. Beyond the classroom, opting for a post-secondary education in the U.S. has numerous advantages.

Studying in the U.S. exposes students to a different academic landscape, societal values, and political ideologies. This challenges them to evaluate their beliefs, ideologies and perspectives. This grows intellectual curiosity and creates a deeper understanding of complex global issues. Through this, their repertoire is not limited only to their country of origin.

Access to international education equips students with the knowledge, skill set and experience needed to navigate diverse cultural contexts both in their professional and personal lives. Through these cross-cultural interactions, they connect deeply with the world, fostering international interactions.

Studying outside the country is an opportunity to step outside one’s comfort zone and challenge oneself. With this, students get to adapt to new environments and navigate life independently. This speeds up their growth, and boosts their self-confidence and resilience, preparing them for the real world.

The education system of universities in the U.S. offers numerous chances for students to develop transferable skills needed for optimal performance at their future workplace. The great level of diversity in universities in the U.S. prepares students for the international workplace as they have dealt with colleagues from different backgrounds while in school.

Studying in the U.S. gets students closer to its robust job market with different job opportunities in different sectors and industries. This is facilitated through co-op programs, internships and networking opportunities gained through their academic program. The proximity to international companies and organizations also makes this possible.

Getting enrolled in some programs may be easier in the U.S. in comparison to Canada. There are over 4000 colleges in the United States. Some programs are very competitive in Canada because of the limited seats. To increase the chances of getting enrolled in such programs, the U.S. is an option, as these programs may have more seats, thereby increasing your chances of admissions.

Getting the knowledge and information to get started with this often serves as a challenge. This  is why PREPSKILLS INC. is hosting the U.S. College Expo. to sensitize you on all you need to know about studying in the U.S. Attending this event are representatives from various universities from the U.S. The 2024 U.S. College Expo will include special appearances from 3x Olympic Hockey Gold Medalist Gillian Apps, Harvard Business School and Cornell University Grad Jeanne Lam, Senior Director, NCSA Julian Jenkins, Assistant Director of Recruitment Pre-College Programs at Columbia University Anita Weiss and The Official DJ for The Miami Heat and Florida International University Grad DJ Irie.

If you are looking for a particular academic specialized program, or you are a student-athlete looking to play college sports, or a performing arts student with an aspiration to study the Arts, join us! U.S. College Expo will be held in Toronto April 20, 2024 at the Roy Thomson Hall from 10:00AM – 2:00PM and in Calgary April 28, 2024 at the Arts Commons from 11:00AM – 2:00PM.
