Financial Options for Private School Education

At what point in our child’s education should we be exploring the options for schools? Can our family afford private, independent or boarding school for our child? Do private, boarding, or prep schools offer merit scholarships or need based financial aid?  What about class size, how does that impact a child’s learning and development? How do I know if my child will do better in a single gender or coed learning environment? What if we are considering a US college or university, could a US prep school support this pathway? Where does a parent start to begin the process? What’s involved in an application and interview process?

These are all examples of the many questions and considerations that parents explore when looking at options for their child’s future and education.  Preparation for students as they begin to look at their educational options was one of the topics that Ian Robinson talked about on a recent interview about the upcoming PrepConnect event, Saturday September 19 (an online event to support parents whether your child is 4 or 18, the event has information that provides the information parents need).

Check out what Ian Robinson had to say on this recent interview he did with Dr. Jennifer Hibberd of Hibberd Health.

Ian Robinson is a retired School Teacher, Admissions Director, Upper Canada College (UCC) and Retired Principal of The Sterling Hall School (SHS).  Ian Robinson was born in Cheshire, England of Canadian parents. He attended boys’ elementary and secondary boarding schools and earned a University of London BA in French and German followed by a Certificate in Education from Keele University. He then taught in Versailles, France for one year and at Chase Terrace Comprehensive in Staffordshire for four years. He arrived in Canada in 1976 to teach at Upper Canada College Prep School where he worked for 19 years, five of which were as the Admissions Director. He was then appointed Principal at The Sterling Hall School in 1995 a role from which he retired in 2012.

At the Vritual PrepConnect online event there will be panels of experts available to speak to different areas of education, the application process and what kinds of education the schools are known for. In fact, you’ll be able to meet and network with the schools and experts. Ian is one of the PrepConnect panel moderators. He will be moderating the panel:

Financing Private School – Scholarships, Financial Aid and Tax breaks:  You’ve narrowed down the schools of interest or are just starting the journey of exploring private school options and you are wondering how to finance your child’s education.  Affordability and financing a child’s education often brings many questions but there are also different options to consider. In this panel, you will learn about scholarships, financing, tax breaks, and other funding options.
